Brighton's Night House have unveiled their latest single, Bloodlines, ahead of the release of their debut album Everyone Is Watching From Afar, out on 27th March 2020 via Back in The Woods Records.

The collective draw from a wide range of influences marrying the electronic work the likes of which James Blake and Radiohead are renowned for, with the folk harmonies of Sufjan StevensJoni Mitchell, and Bon Iver.  Co-produced and mixed by Dan Brown (Massive AttackJerry WilliamsLuca), the record was written during a period of family bereavement with the personal lyrics drifting over warm strings and clarinets, where layered vocal harmonies meet icy synthesizers and electronic beats.

Bloodlines is another example of the splendorous sound Night House produce. Marrying beautiful, uplifting ethereal harmonies with modern electronica, the band create a warm, intelligent sound that is reminiscent of Björk and Wild Beasts, with lead singer Nicholas Williams aptly described by Radio Reverb as a “falsetto Tom Waits”. This has seen Night House pick up support from tastemakers such as M-Magazine (PRS for Music) and Clash Magazine, as well as premiering videos on Attitude Magazine and God is in the TV.

Let's Talk About the Weather discusses our connection to each other, nature and ourselves in a time of climate crisis. “I wanted to make an album which sounds on the surface like alt-pop music, and is full of collected sounds from our times and the world around us,” Emily explains. “I feel like there’s a lot of hope and a yearning to connect to something deeper, and reassess what’s important, but also dark undertones of where we could be headed if we don’t wake up and change.” Let’s Talk About The Weather once again showcase’s Emily’s unique ability to create glittering spacial soundscapes that shimmer endlessly, as brooding swirls of electronics and effervescent melodies intertwine. Emily’s beautifully rich vocals soar effortlessly over the organic textures, creating a sound that is both seductive and spellbinding. Fans of the likes of Sylvan Esso and Overcoats will feel at home here.

Introspective troubadour Lloyd James Fay returns with the release of his ambient new single Idiocracy, which is taken from his upcoming EP Fake Depth, out 8th May 2020. O

Idiocracy, Fay’s tender and evocative vocal is able to soar instantly. Gentle guitar strums are paired with pulsating drum beats, setting the tone perfectly for this intimate, lo-fi rock release. Throughout the EP ambient brushes of distortion are combined with poignant acoustic moments, creating a sound that is both atmospheric and undeniably thought-provoking. Talking about the EP, Fay elaborates, “the theme is reflecting on what the internet, social media and modern technology is doing to society. How we have never been more connected yet at the same time so divided as people silo into echo chambers and fall foul of cognitive biases. Reflecting on the best thing about the internet is that it has given everyone a voice and the worst thing is that is has given everyone a voice. Trying to capture the zeitgeist of this moment where a celebrity narcissist is the most powerful person on the planet because of Twitter. And from a personal point of view, my journey from being an internet utopian to a dystopian.”

Acclaimed Danish composer Frans Bak returns with his latest collection of transcendent vignettes. His compelling new album Piano is out on 17th April 2020 via Dharma Records.

Taken from the album is Frans’ new single Parting; a beautifully bittersweet slice of ambience that is filled with harmonically gorgeous interplays between the piano and stunning string quartet throughout. Talking about the single, Frans elaborates, “Parting is about saying goodbye to your loved ones. It was written as a song for a play for The Royal Danish Theatre - being sung at a funeral. The cellist Live Johannson and I have enjoyed playing together a couple of times - so I decided to make a special arrangement for this album.”

The album is inspired by the love and saviour of the same piano he played on as a child. When his own kids grew up he didn’t have room for it, so he sold it. He later saw an advert in the paper selling that exact piano, so he bought it back. Playing on this piano again, Frans has revisited his childhood years and his love of creating simple and beautiful piano melodies whilst incorporating his extraordinary musical journey to date. Throughout the album Frans takes the listener on an undeniably immersive listening experience, constantly pushing boundaries and creating unique soundscapes in order to completely mesmerise with the help of his intricate storytelling charm.
