MeMe Detroit
“…a stirring, visceral return…” - Clash Magazine
MeMe Detroit is the monicker of Birmingham-based multi-instrumentalist, Maria Rodriguez (guitar, vocals). Their high octane brand of alternative rock combines the raw, grunge influences to emerge in the mid to late 80s, with the DIY, socially-minded activism associated with the riot grrrr movement of the early 90s.
Known for their raucous, in-your-face live performances, MeMe Detroit’s unadulterated passion pours out of every note. Having been championed by the likes of BBC Introducing, Fresh On The Net, Kerrang! Radio, BBC Radio’s Janice Long, Clash Magazine and Louder Than War, MeMe Detroit have been described as a force of nature worth reckoning with.
Roaring At The Preachers is their latest, sonically charged single. A blazing foot stomping anthem, the track is oozing with scuzzy guitar riffs and a sing along hook-laden chorus. The track was inspired by Maria’s experiences with people who impose their beliefs upon others. Recognising the hypocrisy and animosity that surrounds different belief systems, Roaring At The Preachers is just over 3 and a half minutes worth of pure unadulterated anthemic angst. Maria used her writing to highlight the need for people to expel their negativity and, instead, embrace the light by showing love and empathy for others.
Also performing on the single is Kallum McEwen (drums, backing vocals, guitar) and Joey Strange (bass, backing vocals). Having already rocked the likes of The Isle of Wight Festival and The O2 Academy over the years, the release of Roaring At The Preachers will kickstart a flurry of activity for the band.
