Codex

Manchester based duo Codex are preparing to release their glitchy new single Airport, out on 1st July 2020.

Fusing an eclectic range of influences, Codex organically blend warm, cerebral soundscapes with hypnotic electronic beats to create an atmospheric, brooding single. Opening with off-kilter analogue drum beats, Airport is intensified by the dream-like vocals of Shahriar Parast, the track menacingly building throughout, as Codex playfully experiment with textural sounds spanning influences from underground electronica to melodic pop.

Having first met at 11 years old, Shahriar Parast (vocals, multi-instrumentalist, production) and Adam Mayer (multi-instrumentalist, production) honed their craft playing in multiple bands throughout their teenage years. After finishing high school the pair decided to start writing and recording their own material as they invested in a cheap laptop, basic software and were forced to use the in-built microphone to record vocals. After moving to study at Hull University, Codex were officially born with the duo enlisting the help of fellow musicians preforming live as a five-piece band. After completing their studies, the pair began performing as a duo playing their first gig as a two-piece in September 2018.

Maintaining their DIY principles since their inception, Codex have self-released and self-promoted their music to great effect having made the longlist of the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition, gaining airplay on BBC Radio and Amazing Radio as well as supporting Battles at Gorilla in Manchester in 2019. With Airport due for release in June and more music slated for release later this year, Codex are eager to share their sophisticated brand of electro with a wider audience.

Airport is due for release on 1st July 2020.
