Rising Scottish artist Nikhita prepares to mesmerise with the release of her luminous new single Lake Karachay, out 6th February 2025. This is the first single to be taken from Nikhita’s highly anticipated debut EP Solace, out 4th April 2025.

Lake Karachay is an otherworldly delight from the offset. Combining languid neo-soul with cosmic RnB soundscapes, Nikhita creates a sound that is both intimate and radiant. Nikhita’s ethereal falsetto takes centre stage, soaring effortlessly over the delicate musicality and channelling the likes of Cleo Sol and Raveena as a result.

Talking about the single, Nikhita says “it was inspired by the most toxic lake in the world. The lake in Russia was used as a nuclear dumping ground in the 1950s, and later covered up with concrete to avoid further pollution. Whilst I was writing, I had surrounded myself with a lot of toxic people. Hearing the story of the lake one day, I sympathised with this body of water, feeling used, and like an emotionally polluted dumping ground. I chose to make this the opening track of the EP because to me, it’s an almost comical foresight for some following songs on the project- like a ‘’don’t get yourself into these situations!’’ warning from an older me.''

Currently based in Edinburgh, Nikhita is already well established within the Scottish live circuit. She has supported the likes of Connie Constance and Eva Lazarus, as well as previously performing at PITCH Scotland, Solas Festival, Kelburn Garden Party, FOCUS Wales and Sofar Sounds Edinburgh to name a few. Nikhita has already received praise from the likes of The Skinny, The Scotsman and Tenement TV, as well as BBC Asian Network - earning her an Artist of The Week feature and a live radio performance at Maida Vale Studios for International Women’s Day - alongside plays on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Introducing.

Catch Nikhita live next supporting Nia Chennai on 25th March 2025 at Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh.
