J.C. Wright

Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer J. C. Wright is preparing to unveil his touching new single When There’s Nowhere Left To Turn. Having been involved in various aspects of the music industry for decades, Wright has honed his craft, immersing himself in a variety of roles both in the UK and the US.

Wright was a key member of major label bands such as Das Psycho Rangers (ZTT Records) and The Genies (Universal/MCA) as well as one of the co-founders of the renowned London music venue The Splash Club at The Water Rats. The club was at the forefront of the Brit Pop explosion, famously hosting Oasis’ first ever London show as well as performances from the likes of Blur, Beck, Skunk Anansie, Elastica, Placebo, Echobelly and countless others. For the last 20 plus years Wright has been producing and co-writing with various artists in his own recording studio in North East London, leading to the creation of his label Clear Light Records. In conjunction with Declared Goods, he has been using it as a platform for the release of musical projects and artists he is deeply creatively involved with.

Now, Wright is stepping back into the limelight, taking the opportunity to release his own music. Wright’s eclectic, melodic, and emotive songwriting style is deeply personal. Dark and confessional at times, Wright’s songwriting is laced with playful inventiveness, melded with unexpected arrangements. This is borne out in his latest single When There’s Nowhere Left To Turn. The track is an end of world love song with a mesmerising blend of haunting melodies, introspective lyrics and 70’s psych sonics. Set against the backdrop of a world on the brink, the song offers a poignant reflection on the very human experience of love, connection and hope in the midst of the self-destructive end of a turbulent dystopia.

When There’s Nowhere Left To Turn is out on 15th May on Clear Light Records via Declared Goods, and is taken from Wright’s debut solo EP, out later this year.
